We will hopefully pass on our keys to you when we meet at yours. We will also leave another set at home for you in the kitchen. Our neighbours, Daisy & Sasha, have keys and are over the road at no. 134 if you ever get locked out. They know you are staying with us as well so if you need anything or any help, feel free to give them a knock. Also, if you are planning any trips away they can pop into sort the cats out.
Doors & Windows
-
We have two front doors, the white outer door to get into the porch and one more internal.
We lock both these doors when we leave the house. The white door, you have to pull the handle up when you come inside for it to stay shut. The brown door opens anti clockwise to open it when you put the key in. These doors are next on the list to reinstate with a traditional timber door instead - there is always more to do in a Victorian home!
-
All the windows will be closed but you can open them all up when you come in. We always keep the ground floor front one closed at night. The back one in the living room to the courtyard can fully open but make sure you open it fully only at the top as otherwise you’ll be looking after more than three cats! Their cat flap is underneath and only our cats can come in as it is a micro chipped one.
All windows have the restrictors in (except the master bedroom to the right) but you can take these out if your kids will be safe - if you open them at height you can lean out which we wouldn’t recommend. The key for these is in the cupboard above the glasses in a cream pot.
-
The back door has a key which will be on the shelf above the sink. It has a green keyring on.
-
When it is hot we open up the living room windows, the door to the courtyard and back door and windows in the kitchen - this cools the whole house down. This is only really needed if in the high 20s / early 30s. The back door stays open using the stool from the green outdoor furniture to keep the door open when it is windy.
The Kitchen
-
Bora system, the left hand side is Induction, the hot plate on the right hand side can be cooked directly on to it, or used as an electric hob (we’ve never done it) if you need more things cooking in pans.
The extraction goes down into a filter within the island. This shouldn’t be a problem as we changed it recently – but call if it starts beeping.
The display panel in the middle can be a bit tricky, but you’ll get used to it quick. Just try not to get it wet - and if you do wipe it quickly and it shoudl stop beeping.
To use the hob…
Press and hold the on button (circle with line in it) which should be lit up.Press the 0 of the hob you want to turn on , once it beeps and lights up, use the central vertical dial or the plus buttons to turn the heat up.
9 is the highest and should only be used for boiling water – possibly searing a steak.
This video has a quick glimpse, they seem to have removed the previous how to.
To clean, wait unti it’s cooled down and use the glass cleaner under the sink.
-
Push the dial in and it’ll pop out, then you can turn it to whatever setting you need (we tend to use second or third to the right). Temp is the right hand dial. Both ovens are the same.
-
Bigger handle to the left of the sink
Press down the ON button, choose your selection (we tend to do intense) and then press start and close door.
-
In the utility next to the fridge, on the left hand side.
Put a capsule in with the washing (these are on the tumble). If doing a white wash, add in vanish (in a pink tub on the shelving rack) and some water to flush it down in the drawer.
Press in the on button, turn the knob to what you need (we use cotton wash for whites (2hour wash) and then all others the dark wash which only takes an hour. Set your temp and press start button.
-
Turn the big knob to what you like, we tend to use cupboard dry extra. It’ll beep when it is done and them the big knob to off. We also have a clothes horse and a retractable line above the tumble and WM. We take the clothes horse outside and put on patio as it’ll get a fair bit of sun during the day.
-
Inside the bin drawer (next to dishwasher) we have one on the right for recycling. We clean all items and put them in here. Glass, milk cartons, plastic waste (but not the plastic wrap and the thinner plastic. We store this in the utility room and take it to the shop on the high street - Coop), paper, cardboard.
To the left is all other waste (including food waste). These bins then go out the front door into the large ones there. The green is for standard waste, and the orange top for recycling (we empty the contents of our recycling bin directly into here).
Bins are taken away every Monday. The standard one first thing in the am (around 7am) and the recycling later in the day around 3pm ish. Put bins on street before they take them. Sometimes they ignore our bins if we don’t do this.
Garden & Plants
-
Please top them up with water if they start looking tired.
The basil next to the back door gets very thirsty – please fill the base up with water everytime you pass – and enjoy the fresh basil with your meals!
-
If the rain doesn’t come (fingers crossed for you) please can you use the hose and give the beds a good soaking once a week for around 30mins.
Or you can set up the sprinkler and move it down the garden. The sprinkler is in the shed. The key to this is in the drawer nearest the backdoor.
All tubs will need to be watered twice a week. You can use the hose or the watering can which is outside.
-
Use the outside table as much as possible - we love having brekkie and all meals out here. Table cloths are all under the bench in the kitchen next to the shelf and cupboards
Theres an external socket under the window and closest to the brick wall. We move an Alexa out here as well when eating dinner.
We have huge picnic blankets in the basket under the bench. These are great to take to the flats if you fancy sitting on something.
Linen & towels & loo roll
All bed linen is stored under the beds (except bunk beds). The master bedroom has the master bed linen in the drawer closest to the door. By the chimney breast has the two single beds for the bunk beds and the other double bed on the first floor. Top room has it in the drawer of the bed itself, closest to the door. Other pillows, duvets and blankets are stored in the other drawers of this bed too.
Towels and bath mats are in the cupboard next to the bath in the family bathroom.
Under the sink in the family bathroom you’ll find more toilet rolls and top up soaps and shower gels if needed.
Misc.
At the front we have a bike shed with a key attached to the main set of keys we give you - feel free to use any of them. A couple of scooters too but my guess most of these could be a bit small for you all!
Vicky our cleaner visits on Fridays at 9am. She comes for 5 hours a week too. We have asked her to change your beds each week as we assumed you’d prefer not to have to do this, but instruct her differently if you like!
Games are all under the record player in the living room, along with craft stuff by the dining table in the living room if your kids like this and not too old!
Same as yourself, feel free to use what ever you see in our home and then replenish if you use up
We have kitchen gadgets as well, and please help yourself - bread maker on the surface with recipe book in the drawer, ice cream maker and pasta maker in the food cupboard at the bottom. Ninja food processor in the cupboard above the fridge
Finishing up
When finishing up, I think similar to yourself strip the beds and re make with clean sheets. Just place the dirty ones in the utility room and we can plough through on our return or if Vicky comes before.
Take out the bins and put in new bin bags where needed.
Close the brown door, lock up the white door and post the keys through our letter box.
